62 unicorns in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area have been enlisted, an increase of 11, according to the newly-released Global Unicorn Index 2022 Half-Year Report by the Hurun Research Institute on August 30.
According to the report, Guangzhou ranks fifth in the number of unicorn companies in China, with a total of 19. The city is the fastest growing in China in the first half of the year, with an increase of 9. Guangzhou is among the top 3 cities with the largest number of new unicorns worldwide, indicated Rupert Hoogewerf, founder of The Hurun Report.
The report showed that as of June 2022, 254 new companies had been added, bringing the total to 1,312, an increase of 24%. China increased by 11 in half a year, ranking second only to the United States with a total of 312.
Rupert Hoogewerf announced the report during the 8th China Guangzhou International Investment Annual Conference and the first Global Unicorn CEO Conference in Guangzhou.
"Unicorn enterprises are the symbol of world-class entrepreneurial ecology. The more unicorn enterprises in a country, the stronger its innovation ability and the more perfect the entrepreneurial ecology," said Hoogewerf.
