Guangdong reported no new cases nor asymptomatic infections yesterday. As of May 10, the province has recorded 1,589 cases of COVID-19, of which over 99 percent have recovered, and only four are still under treatment.

Implementing anti-epidemic measures like checking body temperature, grades one and two in junior and senior high schools in Guangzhou, as well as graduates-to-be in universities and colleges, start resuming classes on campuses today (May 11).

Official data shows that 5.5 million students in middle schools already have returned to schools today in Guangdong.

According to Guangzhou Metro, the city's metro lines are expected to see an average increase of 200,000 passengers per week from May 11 to 29, as students in primary and middle schools are scheduled to return to school in three batches on May 11, 18 and 25. To date, the daily passenger flow at metro lines during workdays has reached nearly six million.

More metro trains will be put into operation during peak hours to relieve traffic pressure and to strengthen passengers' safety, Guangzhou Metro said. Also, subway riders are advised to avoid traveling in rush hours, and are required to produce their health codes from Suikang (穗康) or Yueshengshi (粵省事) mini-program when entering metro stations.

Indoor sightseeing facilities reopen in Guangzhou

Canton Tower reopened its indoor sightseeing facilities yesterday, while restricting the daily number of visitors to no more than 30 percent of its maximum visitor capacity. The Bubble Tram atop the tower will be closed to visitors until May 14 due to safety inspection.

Other indoor recreational venues in Guangzhou also have resumed operations since May 9, including Grandview Aquarium (正佳極地海洋世界), Grandview Museum of Natural Science (正佳自然科學(xué)博物館) and Grandview Rainforest (正佳雨林生態(tài)植物園). Theaters across the city, however, are still closed to the public for the time being.
